Want 2 Walk! Tubbercurry FRC Summer Walk Series

As part of the Want to Walk Project Tubbercurry FRC in association with Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership is organising a series of leisure walks on Tuesday mornings for people who have some free time and an interest in getting active. Walking is free, friendly, fun and good for our health. You are very welcome to come along and be part of a community walking group. Only guide dogs allowed.

FRC Events Update

Rainbows Programme

Following the success of our last two programmes we are now looking to recruit additional volunteer leaders. Training is normally over the course of a weekend with venue and dates to be confirmed, all volunteers are required to undergo an interview and garda vetting for more details contact Conor Fitzgerald 9186926.

Woman to Woman

Tubbercurry FRC in conjunction with the National Screening Service will be running an information and training day on May 28th on CervicalCheck and BreastCheck. The aim of the day is to provide women with the information and skills to spread the message about both these services to other women in there lives. Members of the FRC women’s network will be attending the training which is open to all women living in and around Tubbercurry. Connect Hearing – Hearing Awareness Talk

An informative talk delivered by Connect Hearing will take place in the Family Resource Centre on Wednesday 24th April at 7pm.The aim of the session is to highlight the importance of how hearing affects you and the people around you. The talk/presentation will takes approximately 45 minutes, with some time allowed afterwards for questions. If anyone has problems with their hearing and would like it tested arrangements can be made to have it done another day either in their homes or in Deirdre Cooke’s Opticians, Stephen’s Street, Sligo.

Yoga for Children

Commencing in TubbercurryFRC on Friday 19th April for 6 weeks 4.30pm-5.30pm for children aged 8 plus. Cost is €30.

Adult yoga takes place on a Wednesday morning at 10am.

Personal Development Course

The FRC will run a personal development course for people living with a disability in the community. The programme will commence on Tuesday 9th April and run for 6 weeks from 10.00am-1.00pm. The course will look at life stories, dealing with conflict, assertiveness with a fun social aspect through out. For inquiries contact the FRC.

Phone Appeal – for your local Men’s Shed

The Men’s Shed are appealing for old mobile phones, if they are successful in collecting 420 old phones they will be able to get a defibrillator for the community and 6 members of the shed will be trained in it’s safe use. Phones can be dropped in the Fones4Life box at reception in the FRC. Thank you for your support.

Getting Ready For Primary School

This is a six week programme for parents of children in pre-school run by County Sligo VEC. The programme will cover home learning, importance of play and learning, tasks children should learn before going to school, speech and language, reading, writing, maths and preparing for the first day of school. The programme will start on Thursday 11th April at 11.00am. A refundable deposit is needed to secure place. Places are limited. To book contact the centre on 0719186926.

Marie Keating Visit – Get Men Talking Campaign

As part of the Get Men Talking Campaign the Marie Keating Foundation will visit the FRC on Thursday 28th March. At 11am there will be a talk on Men and Cancer in the centre, in the FRC carpark the mobile unit will be available to the public from 12-1.30pm. All are welcome.

Men’s Cookery

Cookery classes for men will take place in the FRC starting Wednesday 20th March 4-6pm. The course will run for four weeks. There are two spaces available. For more information and to book a space contact the centre.

Parent Toddler Group meet in the Coleman centre on Mondays from 11.00am-12. Planned activities include circle time, music and song, play dough time and arts and crafts. The next two planned sessions will take place on February 25th and March 4th.

Sligo LEADER will host an information day in the FRC Wednesday the 6th of March from 10am. They will be available to meet individuals and community groups to discuss funding ideas as well as business start-up ideas for more information around the event please call Phil on 071 9141138

Two courses commencing in the coming weeks are “Digital photography” and “How to make the most of the Internet” to book a place or for more details contact the Centre.

Get Fit

Over 55’s Chair Aerobic Classes run in the FRC Tuesday afternoon’s from 3-4pm. Yoga classes take place on a Wednesday morning for more info on any of the above contact the centre.

The Men’s Shed AGM will take place on February 13th at 7pm in the Resource Centre.

Over 50’s Fit

Why not join our fun fitness classes with Diane. The class will run in the FRC every Tuesday (starting 4th of February) afternoon from 3-4pm. It will involve chair aerobic and flexibility to music. For more information contact the centre.

Mums Time Out Club

After a busy morning getting all ready for school would you like some time and space for yourself in the company of other mums. If so, why not join our Time Out club each Wednesday from 10.00am. Wednesday 6th Feb Beauty Morning compliments of North Connaught College.

Peer to Peer Support for Breastfeeding Mums

The group will meet the first Monday of every month at 10.00am in the Family Resource Centre. The first meeting will take place on February 4th with a talk from La Leche League.

Women’s Group

The FRC Women’s group meet every Thursday morning from 10.30am. So far this year the group have made soap and jewellery sets. Next week they will be looking at ways to up style an existing garment and learning how to add a splash of creativity to bland items. Other activities planned include rug making, patchwork, knitting & Crochet, candle making, use of a sewing machine and much more. For inquires contact the centre.

Free information evening on Men and Cancer.

The Irish Cancer Society, as part of its Community Health Education Programme (CHEP) will hold a free talk specifically for men on the topic of men and cancer on Wednesday 28th November in Tubbercurry Family Resource Centre . The talk will cover topics such as how to spot the early warning signs of cancer and how you can reduce your risk of cancer by up to 50% by making healthy lifestyle choices. This talk will focus on general topics as well as less well known cancers that are specific to men, like prostate and testicular cancer

Counselling services

The FRC have secured funding from ESB Ireland and the Family Support Agency to develop a counselling service. We will be offering Marriage /Relationship counselling, Bereavement counselling and person centred counselling. The services will be carried out by fully qualified and Counsellors and will be offered on a Monday afternoon / evening and a Wednesday morning. Thursday Crafters

This group of women meet every Thursday morning for a chat and a cuppa, as well as learning new skills and share existing ones with members. The group have worked on card making, knitting, crochet and more. Upcoming workshops will include jewellery making, how to use a sewing machine and basic alterations, knitting, crochet patchwork as well as gift making and crafts using recyclable materials. Anyone interested in the group can call in any Thursday from 10.30am.
