Access to Training & Employment for People With a Disability – Seed Project

The SEED Project is a programme which supports people aged 16-65 and who are in receipt of a Department of Social Protection Illness/Disability payment, in accessing training, education and employment.To find out about the programme please come to a ‘Fun Social Introduction day’ on 25th June in Tubbercurry Family Resource Centre 11am-3pm. Transport and lunch will be provided.

Music Generation Summer Camp

Music Generation is a national education programme for children and young people funded by U2 and the Ireland Funds.  They will be hosting a Summer Camp in Tubbercurry FRC  Monday  22 July – Friday 27th, 10am -3pm. the camp is suitable for ages 7 to 17 and all music abilities catered for.

Talk on Heart Health with Croi

‘Reducing your risk of Heart Disease and Stroke – A Lifestyle Approach’ will take place on Wednesday 12th June @ 7pm in the FRC. The talk is taking place as part of Men’s Health Week 2013. All are welcome. Enquiries can be made to the FRC.

 

Want 2 Walk

Walk 5 of our 5 Weeks 5 Walks Programme will take place next Wednesday 12th June at 10.15am meeting in the FRC car park. The walk is around Lover’s Lane approximately 5km, all are welcome. For more details, contact the FRC 071 9186926.

 

What’s Happening

Summer Camps:

Tubbercurry FRC will be hold two summer camps. Camp 1 July8th – 12th  is for 6-12 year olds, camp 2 July 15th – 19th is for 4 – 5 year olds.  Some of the activities will include, multisport events, gardening, cookery, arts and crafts etc. Camps will run from 10am to 2pm the cost of camp is €50 per child, family discounts will apply.  

 

Want 2 Walk

Walk 4 of our 5 Weeks 5 Walks Programme will take place in Moylough next Wednesday 5th June at 10.15am meeting at the Heritage Centre. The walk is approximately 6km, all are welcome.

 

Teen Summer Programme

The FRC supported by SSRP will be running events for 12-16 years in the month of June. Events will include: mountain biking in the Ox Mountains on June 20th (11am-1pm) meeting at Lough Talt. A three day camp June 26th -28th which will include a day in the Ox Mountains orienteering, learning bush craft skills and team activities (10am-2pm).  The other two days will involve rebounding\trampolining, boxercise etc with trained coaches also a boccia and pool tournament (11am-1pm). Numbers catered for will be limited so booking is essential. Transport will not be provided.

 

Breastfeeding Support Group

Due to the bank holiday  the next meeting of the support group will take place on Monday June 10th at 10am in the FRC. Breastfeeding support  group is for expectant mums who are considering breastfeeding and those who are currently breastfeeding, and provides the opportunity to get support, share information and encouragement.

 The first of our 5 Weeks 5 Walks Programme took place on wednesday, weather conditions were favourable.   Thanks to Frank McGee who gave a very informative session on the history of the Famine Graveyard and Workhouse in Tubbercurry. Participants enjoyed the walk and we look forward to next week’s walk the Curry Loop, we will be meeting on Wednesday at 10.15am at Howley’s of Curry.  All are welcome.  Summer Camp

Tubbercurry FRC will once again be holding  their Summer Camps in July, July 8th- 12th will be for children aged 6-12 years and July 15th-19th for children aged 4-5 years. There will be plenty of fun activities to take part in such as Team games, Outdoor activities, Sports, Arts & Crafts and lots more.  More details next week.

Want 2 Walk!  Tubbercurry FRC Summer Walk Series

As part of the Want to Walk Project Tubbercurry FRC in association with Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership is organising a series of leisure walks on Tuesday mornings for people who have some free time and an interest in getting active.  Walking is free, friendly, fun and good for our health. You are very welcome to come along and be part of a community walking group. Only guide dogs allowed.

FRC Events Update

Rainbows Programme

Following the success of our last two programmes we are now looking to recruit additional volunteer leaders.  Training is normally over the course of a weekend with venue and dates to be confirmed, all volunteers are required to undergo an interview and garda vetting for more details contact Conor Fitzgerald 9186926.

 Woman to Woman

Tubbercurry FRC in conjunction with the National Screening Service will be running an information and training day on May 28th on CervicalCheck and BreastCheck. The aim of the day is to provide women with the information and skills to spread the message about both these services to other women in there lives.  Members of the FRC women’s network will be attending the training which is open to all women living in and around Tubbercurry. The open morning is a chance for ladies in the area to feed into this wish list and to see what the group is all about. All are very welcome to attend.

 Connect Hearing – Hearing Awareness Talk

An informative talk delivered by Connect Hearing will take place in the Family Resource Centre on Wednesday 24th April at 7pm.The aim of the session is to highlight the importance of how hearing affects you and the people around you.  The talk/presentation will takes approximately 45 minutes, with some time allowed afterwards for questions.   If anyone has problems with their hearing and would like it tested arrangements can be made to have it done another day either in their homes or in Deirdre Cooke’s Opticians, Stephen’s Street, Sligo.

  Counselling Services

 Yoga for Children

Commencing in TubbercurryFRC on Friday 19th April  for 6 weeks 4.30pm-5.30pm for children aged 8 plus. Cost is €30.

Adult yoga takes place on a Wednesday morning at 10am.

Personal Development Course

The FRC will run a personal development course for people living with a disability in the community. The programme will commence on Tuesday 9th April and run for 6 weeks from 10.00am-1.00pm. The course will look at life stories, dealing with conflict, assertiveness with a fun social aspect through out. For inquiries contact the FRC.
